Grow, Innovate, Succeed! We have an incredible opportunity for an Instrumentation & Control Technician at NBL Westmead Biscuits in Westmead, Durban. In this role, you will support the factory in all automation projects; and provide support to ensure preventative maintenance minimizes plant downtime.  

 

Line Manager: Industrial Automation Engineer

 

Job Specification:

Key Performance Areas:

  • Maintenance and troubleshooting of PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, and other control devices
  • Install, configure, and maintain electrical and instrumentation equipment (e.g., sensors, transmitters, actuators, load cells, etc)
  • Implement preventative maintenance programs to minimise downtime and optimise system performance
  • Ensure all automation software backups are up to date
  • Select, install, and calibrate measurement and instrumentation devices
  • Develop technical specifications for automation and instrumentation systems
  • Diagnose and program automation systems, including PLCs and electronic drives
  • Troubleshoot electrical and electronic control systems.
  • Collaborate with OEMs and contractors to ensure compliance with operational standards
  • Manage minor projects related to control and instrumentation
  • Maintain and improve control systems, including both open-loop and closed-loop automation processes
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations during installations and repairs
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support production goals
  • Required to perform standby duties

Minimum Requirements:

Experience:                                                                   

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in instrumentation and control systems within an FMCG or manufacturing environment
  • Computer literacy and Siemens PLC experience is essential
  • Proficiency in PLC programming (Allen Bradley, Siemens) and troubleshooting.
  • Strong understanding of electrical schematics and control circuits.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation, or Automation
  • Electrical/Instrumentation Trade Test - advantageous

Additional Requirements:

  • Proficient using Scada/Wonderware
  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
